I have a mere three weeks until i've completed my BFA! It's been a long time coming, but I've enjoyed every experience I've had. I wish I had more time to enjoy my last three weeks, but with four studio classes and an internship time begins to slip away. I'm currently working on an illustration of either "wuthering heights" or "kangaroo communiqué;" i have sketches for both, but I can't really tell which would be more appealing. I'm leaning towards K.C. because it reads so nicely. Other than that I'm trying to produce this amputated leg for the BFA show the first week of december. It's giving me the blues. Not the leg itself, but the thought process work behind the piece. I want to show the process of the work; but I also have to install in the piece in my apartment; have it documented interacting with people; then have it edited for the show. SO excited. Then I am also working on my "Orgasim Portraits" which are evolving into something very interesting as well. I have also reverted back to my "motion still life" portraits. Which during it's hibernation has mutated into something amazing as well.
I really don't even have time to finish this post. See you at Graduation, Livejournal.

After so many test "baggies" I've finally gotten the final product for the large "one ounce" ziplock baggies; they took about two hours for each. It was so nerve racking these past two weeks messing with all the prototype baggies. Also, In the midst of all the prototype "baggies" I made small "gram" pouches in an idea that I would utilize those in my film instead of the large baggies. The problem is: they came out so amazing! Which isn't really a problem considering I made a whole jar! HA! The jar is titled "Cooking Sherry" I have to use them. The jar of small baggies were created in a little over an hour. I'm really pleased that I've finally found a more concrete version of the herione as well! Before I was merely using the yarn the same way I had been using it before: just as a raw string. Now I've severed the yarn down into a small dust like particle. Unfortunately this photograph doesn't do it much justice, but it's not FULLY completed yet! I'm still adding a few more effects to it, & once I've added those a much more professional picture will be taken.

Here are the prices for these sculptures:
$5 for a "gram" baggie yarn & fabric sizes vary
or $90 for "The Cooking Sherry" yarn & fabric 4" X 6"
$20 for an "ounce" baggie
yarn & fabric sizes vary

I've recently been introduced to an artist by the name of Al Souza.
He takes puzzles and layers them atop one another to create this painterly style of work. They're absolutely breath taking in person! He currently is exhibiting in Houston at the Moody Gallery; convenient because the man lives there. I'm so elated that this artist will be exhibiting in San Antonio this November! This news only adds to other exciting things to see this November like final fantasy & minus the bear.
Souza's work being show at the gallery in San Antonio is not like the piece that I've shown you there. It's pieces paper that have been sewn together in delicate manner. My personal favorite(I happen to get a sneak-peak!) is this smaller piece that is different portions of an older yellow road map. The thread used to bring these pieces together is also yellow, which to me is so beautiful because it disguises the actual process of the work. You have to really engage yourself with the piece to really see this yellow thread. I also enjoy how the thread acts as a road itself. You see it move through the pieces as though it were a road itself.
That's just one of the pieces that can be seen in San Antonio this November.
If you're in San Antonio you'll have to see his work when the show goes up 11/7/09 at the David Shelton Gallery. They're plenty of pieces for you to come view & buy at the gallery--I didn't give away too much!

I'm so attracted to his work because of all the sewing I'm doing for my current work! I'm started to see all the things I can do with thread & fabric. Wish me Luck!

So, I'm in class stitching my crack rocks.

I'm currently continuing the fabrication of drugs for my senior piece. Such a strange sentence, no? I've been toying around with both the fabrication of the bags & drugs. I'll start by explaining the drugs: I'm fabricating crack & heroin. I first stitched four small white squares which became somewhat like blobs of fabric towards the end of production. So, the idea was shelved. Next I tried drenching them in mod podge & then conforming them to a sort of circular shape. That idea was scrapped as well. Then I sort of played around with so many other small ideas--Non worth actually mentioning. Then, one day(when I just playing around with the many idea i had) I decided to try & produce them from yarn in the similar fashion as the blood & gore in my other pieces. It turned out perfectly! So far I've only fabricated the heroin out of yarn & next will be the crack. Then there was the challenge of creating ziplock bags! I toyed around with several idea;s, but they continuously turned out looking like wedding bag. You know the ones that are filled with rice so you can assault the happy couple as the come down the asile.
"CONGRATS, JOHN & PERRY! HERE! LET ME PEG YOU WITH SOME RIIIIIIICE!"
Too wild for me & it looked nothing like something you'd keep "drugs" in. So, I tried my this idea of sewing the tops of ziplock baggies to the sheer fabric that I had already purchased. I could not have been more elated when the final stitch went through!

In this image you can see the two spools of heroin inside. SO AMAZING. It's all about practice & trying several things about before completely, shall we say "settling," on a certain idea. I know that such an "after school special" sort of phrase, but in this case & many others, it is certainly true! Must go back to work now..Ciao!

Monday morning my Los Angeles trip came to an end, did you know? I'm sure you didn't because it was such an under the radar trip. The initial plot of the trip was to feel out the city & to look for; a future job, apartment, places to show my work etc...I of course underestimated EVERYTHING. HA! I'm not too sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't what I got out of the city. I fell in love with how shameless the whole city is, exploiting itself for exactly what it is: a city centered around the "industry." All of my food bills were well over any normal price I'd pay for a meal & the food wasn't even that grand most of the time; you're paying for who ate there before. THANKS, LINDSAY LOHAN. Then the artist there have this really gorgeous uniform; girls jeans, fedora's, flannel, & some sort of boot. They were also extremely hostile to outsiders. I visited one gallery & they hustled me out by signing a guest book & gave me a pamphlet. I should've known better on how to approach these people, especially because i currently work in a gallery & should know the do's & don'ts; all those rules seemed to go out the window. Firstly, because I had such a short amount of time to be there & visit, so I couldn't approach the galleries as respectively as I should have. Other than that I found the city to be enjoyable & I could see myself settling there fast.
I want to be there. I want to live there.
But I have to find a fat job.
I still have much research to do, but I've begun my quest.
Now I'm back in San Antonio trying to pick up my work exactly where I left off. Which isn't even too far off because I crammed a lot of work in the last two nights before my trip. I've filmed Forrest orgasiming for the installation that will be presented in critique tomorrow. I extremely happy with it, but I want to take it five steps further. It just doesn't seem possible this semester with all the sewing I'm doing for my four other pieces.

CRAZY.

So, my life has been pretty hectic as of late! I've got this internship at this great gallery here in san antonio, so that's been occupying my time recently. I have to say it's very strange handling & being surrounded by other artist work all the live long day, but I think me talking about their work is where the most soul torture comes in. It makes me view my art in a darker light. That's sort of ominous to say, but it makes me feel like my art doesn't have the same sort of meat as theirs; that's just me being insecure though. I'll get over it with much haste. There was the opening of our show this past saturday, and I have to tell you that i was fucking insane! So much to do in such a little amount of time; so much to talk about; so many people to me; so many conversations competing for space. HA! It was nice though, and I didn't get home until near 1AM! WORKING THAT WHOLE TIME.

I've been doing a lot of drawing as of late. Above I've included a sample of some of my ink work. It's awfully strange to be working in this sort of medium again but it's really helping my video work. I'm working two video works right now.
1.) Includes my yarn & sensationalized media idea: I'm recreating the murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez. You may recall this crime that happened in the late 80's. It just needs some more time in the story board stage, but the actual installation is already mapped out and ready to go.
2.) Are these two portraits I'm doing of men at the peak of orgasm. They'll be drawings(like i said in a previous entry), but I will be projecting the actual video of them climaxing onto the drawing so the men will float in and out of their drawings. I'm very excited about this one.
NOT TO SAY I'M NOT EXCITED FOR THE MENENDEZ PIECES, but it honestly needs a bit more time cookin' in the noggin. ALSO, THIS WEEKEND I'M GOING TO L.A.! Finally,I'm going to just see the city and see what it's all about and what work i can do, where i could live, where i could eat, where i can...DO WHATEVER! I'm very excited, so if you have any suggestions on where I should go or what I should see please let me know!!

I FINISHED EDITING!

It wasn't as gruesome as i had expected & I didn't have to sacrifice any of my original vision!
Here are some stills from the first edit of the piece; of course there will be several more until I can produce a perfect one.

Lorena finds her way out.

John thinks he's getting some oral pleasure.

textile penis & yarn.

I am so excited to continue editing, but I'm going to be late for my sculpture studio right now! There I am stitching future textiles for future video work. I will try & continue to update as frequent as possible; understand that I am a very busy man, so things get piled onto my plate all the time.

Whew! I just completed filming "the liberation of lorena bobbitt" & did I enjoy myself! I worked with Forrest Smith & Diana Zumeta they both jumped into the project head first & they each took their role where it was meant to go. This is my second time to work with actors; usually it is myself who performs in front of the camera.
My major production concerns: the low dull lighting used in production & the outcome of the textiles in this low lighting & how the editing process may also alter the colors. Other
than that I am so proud of how the filming went & my surprise to the amount of patience with the setting camera angles & of course lighting.
This is why lighting was never a big concern of mine when filming because it usually becomes a pain in during production & I personally would prefer to donate that energy to helping my actor focus or what angle the shot should be & so on...

FIRST FRIDAY!

Last night I went to the "First Friday" of this semester. If you live out of state then you need to know that "Frist Friday" is an art even in downtown san antonio. I would say the main event is at an area called the "blue star" area. This is where I concentrated all my time; it was a good choice I must say. I had no idea that photography would be the theme of the night. All the galleries I went into at least were all photography--it was all things I had seen before. You know the ones? Rural pictures of buildings & there was a theme of "dwellings" in the UTSA gallery which wasn't my cup of tea either. The most exciting image with that theme was a young girl with a honeycomb in her mouth with a gorgeous stream of honey falling from her mouth. Also, My Senior Seminar/Drawing Professor Ron Binks has a photography exhibit. He had photographs of the tops of buildings from a low angle as if the viewer is looking up to the tops of buildings. Then I went down to pass a few vendors selling hand made jewelry & knock off sunglasses.
I must say that this "First Friday" wasn't very entertaining. Also, I forgot to mention that there was a light rain falling on the whole scene. This forced people to scatter else where probably somewhere to eat a taco with a side of guacamole somewhere.

A little while ago I had an installation in my apartment. I recreated two of the gruesome death scenes from the horror movie series Nightmare On Elm Street utilizing fibers for the classic blood splattering and trails of vomit. I was lucky & also had a write up in the university paper!
Well, for this final semester at university I will recreate very infamous death scenes using an array of textiles. Though, this time that I conduct this piece I'd like to film it.

this is my conceptual drawing of how the piece I've titled "The Liberation Of Lorena Bobbit" would be. You can't tell from the drawing but the penis will be a textile penis with yarn drapping from the base of the prop.
Currently I'm about to scratch out to go buy the products I need for the piece. The details of what the penis will be made of are still splattered all over my sketch book; i haven't made the time to run through there yet!

C.Genetics!

You are the sort of person that needs a peaceful environment. You seek release from stress and freedom from conflicts and disagreements, of which you seem to have had more than your fair share. But you are taking pains to control the situation by proceeding cautiously and you are right in doing so as you are a very sensitive person.

You are a true extrovert, frivolous and outgoing. You need to feel in control of any situation. If matters are not proceeding according to plan you tend to get extremely irritable and perhaps become difficult to live with.

You are prepared to establish a particular relationship that is being made available to you at this time. It could be a satisfactory liaison but there could be a certain amount of conflict involved -try to avoid direct confrontation at all costs.

Whatever you strive to do, something always seems to be holding you back. There is no subterfuge in you. You are a clear thinker and all you demand from life, in a relationship, is a partner whom you can trust and with whom you can, together, develop a foundation of trust based on understanding. You are your own person and you demand freedom of thought to follow your own convictions. You have no interest in 'two-timing' and all you seek is sincerity and 'straight-dealing'.

You wish to be left in peace... no more conflict and no more differences of opinion. In fact you just don't want to be involved in arguments of any shape or form. All you want is for 'them' to get on with it - and to leave you alone.

I've been in Ann Arbor for the past week for the 47th Ann Arbor Film Festival! It was such an exciting adventure from the get go. Let me just say that making forts thousands of miles in the air is amazing. Haha! The town was cold and wet and littered with trust fund babies and ugg boots. I stayed in a 1920's home with gorgeous creaking wood floors and dusty chandeliers. This is the home of the Mendel's, a very nice jewish family from the north. This home was also the setting for the film "Rooms" by Jacob Mendel which brings me to opening night of the festival...
The films started strong like "Western Spaghetti" a stop motion films showing the viewer how to make spaghetti with office supplies and stop motion animation. Then there were films that could have been left unseen such as "Steel Homes" an awful film by a british film maker showing the lives of people who live through their storage spaces. It was dull and dragged on for an agonizing ten min. So, out of the the twelve films I saw that night only four made their way into my heart. One was by artist Don Hertzfeldt who will later have his own screening. Then there was the after party. Everyone simply oozed over each other about the films and future films. Which is all fine! Please, I am not trying to be a complete bitch about it; although, they were the ones being bitches about it. this one girl compared the festival to sundance and told me, "Oh, our festival is much better than sundance. We're much more selective." OH, PLEASE! Then there was the next day, wednesday, which was spent exploring the streets of ann arbor until 7PM when I had the pleasure of hearing from Mark Holser of Negative land. A very funny man with many hilarious things to say. The video's that he presented I had already seen before, but it was a different experience to see them on a large silver screen. then I moved forward and began to watch Craig Baldwin's "Mock up On Mu" which was a beautiful concept of making a film completely from found footage, but after an hour I had to leave; the man was just too demanding of his audience.
Thursday I was rudely torn between watching "Cry Dr. Chicago" by George Manupelli and the LGBT films of Out Night. I obviously chose the Out Night Films--gottah support my people. HA! This was the night of sheer fun and excitement. They were filled with dykes, china dolls, psycho's, and drug addicts. How could I say no? All the films were beautiful and occasionally heavy on the heart. "tommy" which i wasn't looking forward to seeing was actually my favorite film! Tora Martens shows you a glimpse into the life of a man in Havana living with aids within the confines of his home. Very nicely done, but the translations i was told were extremely far off. So, after I got my gay fix I moved into the smaller screening room.
Let me just clarify there were two screening rooms. There was one large one with gold ceilings and walls and included a balcony; then, there was a smaller one. This smaller one was more of a general theater which ended up being to small and caused people to become irate about the seating.
Now, back to the films. In the smaller screening room I was able to see "rooms" and a very dark film about Rosemary Kennedy. "severing The Soul" was a dark look at the life of the estranged Kennedy and was put together by Barbra Klutinis. Friday came so fast! I was suddenly familiar with street names and could almost(had blackberry maps ready) navagate my way down town. Friday at the film festival was dedicated to the animators! SO EXCITING! I didn't really care much for animation until this semester when i had to produce one. Hertzfedt's screening was funny and entertaining, but I certainly don't think the man deserved an academy award nomination. Highly overrated and I'm not even trying to be hateful. The other animators that followed were amazing!! "I live In the woods" was such a funny film and the ending was brilliant! Please, watch the trailer i've left above.
Then onto Saturday where there was the very important film "the first open source documentary" and it was a very deep and important film. I'm very glad they showed the underbelly of the industry and exposed the fact that copyrights are dictating out future. The film went back to the days of blues and all the way to napster. The audience boo'ed and cheered for the film and the fi;m maker Brett Gaylor. The film danced around the artist Girl talk(don't act like you don't know him) and use fair use of the music. This film should be shown in institutions all over the world. Brilliant! Other films that were shown on saturday were the character driven films. The first two films "pop art" and "excision" were beautifully done. The first one showed us the life of a boy who lost his mother and his best friend with the birth defect of being inflatable. The second film we went on a dark journey with a female high school senior and her obsession with surgery.

Now I'm back in the dirty-dirty south! I will update on after parties and general adventures at a later date.

<font face="Arial narrow>Luminaria. Ugh, well i personally approached it with such dark eyes. I was convinced that my piece didn't have enough substance and was completely ignored. Also, I was shoved in the back like a broke hoe. I was also expecting a much larger turn out because of the write that was generated for the show and was presented in the San Antonio Current-did I fail to mention that? Anyway, so there I was sluming through this beautiful display of artwork and music. Actually, I wouldn't say beautiful; the whole event has a feeling of slime to it. Anyway, I found myself enjoying my time at a little gallery completely shoved off in the corner. Pretty interesting installations and great music; of course, there was free beer keeping me there. So, I tore down my piece which was being projected onto a giant computer and dashed out with nothing but hate as my partner.
Then later once my agitation subside I found that my piece actually pulled in a healthy sized audience. People discussed the possibilities of it and I even pulled a few chuckles out! It's pleasing but it would have been nice to be there to discuss the piece and give some insight.
With that said, and i'm finally free with the situation, it's time for >The Ann Arbor Film Festival! I leave this tuesday and am going through my portfolio looking for anything to show there, but i'm so discouraged right now with my art. I feel like it's not moving to the next level. Too much Julie Doiron in my life or something; god only know, my dears.

So, Luminaria is coming around again. It doesn’t even feel as though a year has passed already. Once again the New Media program is having a screening throughout the festival, though, this year we have a theme. The theme I have to work with is “Future Utopia’s” in response to the political climate right now. With so many bills and such being passed the young and old artists have to wonder what life will be like for them in the future. So in class we have discussed several options for artist to continue funding their work, or how to maintain themselves. Always exciting things to talk about between artist; and what about the general public? I will be presenting this to a massive amount of people who have no clue what the artist is going through in this time period; people are much more central these days. They pick and choose what to listen to and read about, and I can guarantee a great deal of them could care less about some gay artist. I for one do want to be the one to educate them.
But the idea of a future utopia really excited me. What will life be in a year or four? The thing that kept my attention(and everyone else’s) is the internet. There is a really nice quote that really got the ball rolling on my idea which is
“never before has ever been the opportunity for individuals to step out of their physical surroundings & into a situation where traditional stereotypes have no meaning & where the worlds that are spoken mean everything.”
A very powerful quote. I have this concept that I’ll illustrate about four-eight avatars for four to eight people around the world. They will engage in conversations and their gender/age/race/political back ground won’t be displayed until the end of each slide when the avatar will display a photograph of the actual person. They shall run for about 3 min each possibly less engaging in things from sexual conversations to just general interest. It’ll be interesting to see how the public will respond to this since there will be a massive age range. I feel the younger generation will find it very comical while some adults may find it uneasy if I group two women in a sexual encounter or where a eleven year old intellectually connects to someone in their 30’s.

SO SORRY FOR A BAD PHOTOGRAPH.

i will post another entry shortly on my experience at luminaria.

Bearded Child Film Festival

I've been meaning to write about the Bearded Child Film Festival I attended this past friday! It was held in a intimate room at the downtown campus of my University. The ten films were shown continuously back the back. There were a few that I couldn't stand to keep viewing! For example there was a video by San Francisco artist Andrew Wilson which was titled "Spider House." This video had my attention for a short while then began to bore me with it's erratic camera angels, but I did enjoy the hysterical naming of the spiders. I was rather sad when "the Model" was spun into a web. Out of the handful of video's in the screening I would have to say "Family Dinner Conversations" by Yoshie Sakai was my favorite. This West Coast artist translated and subtitled her parents conversations with her and reenacted the statements made while wearing a ridiculous black paper wig. In all it was very pleasing to be able to see so may experimental films which I would never see on a daily basis. San Antonio doesn't really offer much to this sort of community, so when something like this happens to take a wrong turn into this city I jump on it before it leaves! OH! Something that was very shocking is how many people use archival footage in their video creations. I've always thought of it as a very good resource, but I also saw it as a lazy way to create something. Sort of like your little sister cutting out images from vogue and creating a collage. Not to say that it wouldn't be beautiful(to her), but it's just not my taste. Although after viewing these videos I had idea's of other ways I could use that sort of footage. I always have so many idea's and it's so hard for me to grab one and stick to it. Ugh!

My First Artist Panel

I've never been to any sort of panel meeting for anything, but as of last night I had the pleasure of experiencing my FIRST. The panel which was made up of three artist and two speakers who would help guide the talks that were being discussed. All these artist have a background in some sort of new media or performance art which is what drew me into the meeting in the first place. There was Jason Kahn whom creates sound installations all over the world; this also includes concerts that he's been apart of. Michele Monseau who is a local artist and gallery owner that I've had the pleasure of meeting several times and whom has also critiqued my work twice now. I've physically expereinced her work before and it gives a presence urgency and commands your attention. There was Also, Dan Anderson, whom i discussed in my last entry. Lastly there was Chris Cogburn the director of teh No Idea Festival which he claimed was a response to misery. The two speakers were two professors from my university Leslie Raymond and Justin Boyd.
The Discussion started on a strange and shaky foot. All artist were rather awkward about answering questions, it seemed as though they were unsure if they were answering the topics to an exact point. A few of these shaky topics were: their backgrounds, problems they've had being diy, and names of their galleries. Some questions did get a bit more enthusiasm in comparison to the ones previously stated. One topic was the discussion of grants which Kahn had a weary feeling towards them. He stated that they somewhat put you in a awkward place. He also somewhat bumped head with Cogburn who stated that a concrete idea would get you a grant where as Kahn claimed that a younger artist would probably not get one. I had to agree with Cogburn on this topic, Yes, perhaps they would be looking for someone older who has shown at several galleries. That doesn't necessarily exclude the chance that your idea may be a clear and concrete one. Monsaeu stated that her travel grant changed her life and Anderson exclaimed that with is $4,000 grant gave him the ability to fly in artist who had not received no recognition before(raymond excluded).
When Questions were opened to the audience very few people had questions, but those who did had the panel going back and forth. The main one that had the panel grabbing for the mic was "Do you find it more difficult to be DIY with the advancement of technology."
Anderson said that he found it harder to be DIY with websites like myspace. He compared putting a flyer on the street somewhere as DIY and making a bulletin on myspace not. Cogburn had to disagree saying that technology has helped facilitate certain ideas along with Monseau. She actually quoted two people from her facebook page during her speech to aid her with answering a question. It was all a new experience for me and I did enjoy it. I will end with a comment a girl made during the audience discussion.
"you will always be diy & avant-garde because your work is always open to new eyes."

Yesterday, I met the founder of the bearded child film festival. His name was Dan Anderson, and he was actually a very young man. Well, at least I considered him young in appearance, but he seemed aged from his life experience and from months of travel. He spoke to the video department about the festival, getting festivals started, also his work and works by others. The works he showed all were very interesting. I included a clip above from his piece titled "Cookies for Satan" he said this video is something he would show to his friends or family, and not to someone like a faculty or a gallery owner. Interesting that he has two different styles of work. It was a depressing idea that you have to produce two different styles of work to feed yourself when you're just an artist out there producing work to get a this months rent. I can only assume after a certain point you sell your soul and sacrafice what you enjoy doing just for a pay check.
I look forward to attending his film festival this friday to see what he curated into this show. I failed to mention that he collects ten bucks from each entry into this show and if he don't get in you don't get a refund, but you do get a long critique from Mr. Anderson explaining why you didn't get into the show! A little sassy to me; i think it's a really good idea though! Most film festivals you don't hear back from the people until never.

Music: lights out.

I always in enjoy looking at kara walkers work. They constantly remind me to look at myself as an african and american and how i view myself. The exaggerated lips and noses and the grotesque scenario's always find someway into my everyday imagination.

this untitled piece shows a plantation/slave owner in a unfavorable situation with a small slave girl. At riding his foot like a horse would make it seem as though it is her brother. Actually, after viewing her work i did a series of self portraits of my self and family after viewing her work. I will scan and attach those later; they're actually hilarious! Many writers have used walker in their books about self and ways that african amercian's view themselves in this era. I also feel this work would help into creating something about sterotypical homosexual men and women and all their "fabulous" cliques.

The story of joshua charles hurt is a whimsical one. Starting in the bowels of a upper crust suburban neighborhood. He was bred with a pencil in hand and an imagination to fill any paper or book. He first was noted for his work in high school earning several district wide awards for his watercolor self portraits. When entering college fashion was in the sights for the young man. But, being a fickle college student his imagination and grades led him to video/installation work. His initial pieces in this medium were dark for example he performed as a zombie at his university and gained a glimpse of publicity by being published in the school paper for his "nightmare on elm street" installation. The piece was a recreation of "freddy kruger" murder scene using only yarn and was shown in the artist apartment. Now on the cusp of graduation Hurt is producing pieces which focus on glamour, sexuality, and hollywood.

Anne Wallace's piece which was recently was shown in "All Ladies Video Review" was an intriguing piece to ponder on about ones self. The piece was projected onto the wall a small space forcing the viewer into a blue world. You follow a diver through the waves and waters which is layered atop different angles and hallways of a home. The divers oxygen tank emulates the sound of a respirator which eventually gives out and the video shifts to white as you see a human hand enter the frame and pull the chain of a light. In my opinion there wasn't enough given visually from the Artist for this to be considered a self portrait for me. Emotionally I found myself feeling for this person.
Although, Michele Monseau's piece which featured a constant comparison on two figures lying at the base of a enormous building really brought me to think about the artist, why they produced the work, and what this artist was telling me about themselves. The visual simplicity was what drew me to the piece. It wasn't trying to hide behind some sort of artist facade; all the information is there for you. I've not seen her other piece's, but I read that the woman in one of the projected video's is actually "Isabel" and she is actually a part of a series which always excites me! I love the idea that one idea feeds of the last.

This are images from the night where I played a video I created for the Indian association of San Antonio! It was freezing this night! I sat at my little stand and shivered and clicked at my laptop either trying to catch up to a certain dialogue or pause it at requested area's. The video was nice and with the stage and actors it was from "hearsay" was beautiful. I was obviously unable to see the performance from the audiences perspective. Overall it was a wonderful experience. And since I am posting these images from my blackberry I thought I'd post some more!

futuristic.

from the past to you. from you to the future.

I am at that turning point in my life where I have to start to think into the future. I can not look at it through a week perspective anymore, I have to wonder what's waiting for me when the years start to encroach upon me. Let's say for example five years from now I see myself perhaps still struggling to have myself acknowledged. I will be scratching at pennies and paints trying to feed myself and dog. I would perhaps be in the west coast working through a production studio of some sort which would fund my works on the side. By then I hope to have had countless amounts of solo openings, and perhaps at the closing of my tenth year open my won gallery. In this gallery I wouldn't show my work but the work of others. The younger the better because time gets away from you all too fast; I understand that now. So, I would like to show the work of armature high school and college students so that they can also experience the hell and excitement of the art world. Also by this year that all my humor and skills will be well on it's way to fruition. If I can make an audience of people cackle at bulimia and racism now, then by this time I should be able to magnify this technique and be throwing numerous curve balls at people(perhaps/hopefully literally). I will also hope that I will have finished grad school and have experience, at least twice, life in an artist residency.
All these goals do not seem hard to obtain or far away. But, they seem unorganized and childishly planned out. Which is why they're so beautiful and an art form in it's self. If you asked me next year if I still believe/want all this to happen. I would probably say yes, but the plans would be so re invited you would only be able to recognize the idea's I had before.

For my next piece I plan on taking another controversial topic and spinning it into another dark humorous piece. I was also thinking of taking something that is suppose to be hilarious and taking the viewer to the darkest and eeriest corners of their mind.
